Cases serve as the main missions in the Dead Rising series, and their successful completion advances the storyline. Cases occur at set times and must be completed within a limited timeframe. Failing or missing even a single case will result in the failure of all subsequent cases and the premature ending of the story, although the player will still have the opportunity to explore the mall and complete scoops or missions. When Chuck or Frank find out about a case, the Case File screen appears.

The Case Panels within the Case File screen provide important information, such as whether the case is pending, engaged, solved, or expired. The player can access the Case File screen at any time by pressing Start button/Start button and selecting "Case File" from the pause menu.[1]

Time limits[]

Be careful regarding time management. When a case is engaged, a colored gauge appears in the top-right corner of the game screen. The color of the gauge indicates how much time Frank or Chuck has to solve the case before it expires and their opportunity is lost.[2]

In Dead Rising, if Frank is engaged in a case or scoop and the time expires, as long as he initiated the case before the deadline and remains in close proximity to the case location, it will not result in failure.

In Dead Rising 2, unlike in Dead Rising, Chuck must complete the case before the time runs out; otherwise, the case will fail.

Keep an eye on the Scoop Cue or Mission Cue and prioritize it above all else, especially when it enters the red category.
