Dead Rising 2[]
In Dead Rising 2, this case is triggered at 7am on September 25, right after giving Katey her daily dose of Zombrex.
After the first dose of Zombrex for Katey, Chuck and Stacey are in the Safe House watching TV when a report comes on suggesting that Chuck is responsible for the zombie outbreak. Rebecca Chang delivers the report, blaming Chuck Greene for the outbreak, after an insider video is released, showing the perpetrator in a Terror is Reality suit detonating a bomb at the cage that held the zombies.
Chuck becomes furious as an uncertain Stacey backs away, unsure of what to make of the situation. Chuck convinces her that he's innocent and is being framed. He sets out to find the news reporter to find out what's going on.
He leaves the safety of the bunker and heads to the Fortune City Hotel to find Rebecca Chang.
Off the Record[]
This case is triggered at 8am on September 25, right after Frank takes his Zombrex.
After Frank administers his first dose of Zombrex that he obtained from Roy's Mart, he will return to the Safe House. A news report comes on about the current outbreak, and Frank recognizes Rebecca Chang as the reporter. He and Stacey listen as Rebecca reports, blaming CURE for the outbreak, after an insider video is released, showing Brandon detonating a bomb at the cage that held the zombies.
Frank angrily starts to scold Stacey after seeing the video evidence provided by the news station. Stacey immediately defends herself, claiming that her group is being set up. Frank admits that something isn't right, and sees this as a prime opportunity to investigate another big story. He goes to find Rebecca at the Fortune City Hotel.

Newscaster: I have been told that we have received a broadcast from our field reporter Rebecca Chang, who is inside Fortune City. Rebecca Chang: It is clear that the outbreak started in the Fortune City arena, during last night's "Terror is Reality" show. Information received from a behind the scenes source reveals that this outbreak was not an accident, but rather an act of terrorism. Frank: Ah, Rebecca. Look at you. Not the weather girl anymore. Rebecca Chang: This shocking footage was obtained from a source inside the Fortune City arena, the site of the Terror is Reality game show. It may be upsetting to some viewers. Initial reports suggest that the man in the video is a member of the protest group CURE. Frank: CURE? Rebecca Chang: Authorities speculate that CURE was attempting to discredit Terror is Reality, or to shock Americans out of what CURE sees as their complacency. No statement of responsibility has yet been received. This horrible act of terror appears to be an escalation of violence for the protest group. This is Rebecca Chang - reporting live from the Fortune City Hotel, in the heart of Fortune City. Frank: You? What the hell? That was your picture on that screen! Stacey: Where the hell did that come from? Frank: It came from the security cameras, lady. What the hell were you thinking? Your group's got a reputation, but come on! Stacey: CURE had nothing to do with this! Frank: It's pretty easy to say that, isn't it? But you're going to need more than that. You better start talking, right now. Stacey: I'm telling you, we're being set up. We've been accused of things before, but we don't believe in violence! We're someone's convenient excuse. Frank: Oh really? Stacey: It's not the first time members of CURE have been falsely accused of being involved with an outbreak. I've got to find whoever leaked that tape. That damn TK and his horrible show. Frank: I'm not saying I believe you, but something's not right here, that's for damn sure. I needed something to get back in the game. I investigate this, maybe I get back to doing what I do best. That reporter. Where is she? Stacey: She said she was in the hotel. I know this could end up being a big chance for your career but don't forget, this could mean my life. |
Trivia[]
- According to the unused game text for Case 1-1: Big News, the news crew can be heard shouting "We need to get out of here! It's too dangerous!" in which Rebecca snaps back "Keep rolling!".[1]
- The Dead Rising 2 Prima Official Game Guide incorrectly states Case 1-1 starts at 9am.
- This case starts automatically after completing Zombrex 1 in Dead Rising 2. However, this is not the case in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record whereas it begins at 8am, not after Frank gives himself Zombrex.
- After the cutscene, the time on Chuck's watch says 9am, regardless of when the player gave Katey her Zombrex
